Dentures – a new feeling of comfort and security.
Missing teeth can also be replaced with a set of complete or partial removable dentures. Dr Whitehead will be able to create a set of dentures, custom-made to perfectly fit, making complications in eating and speaking a thing of the past.
Successful denture treatment depends on the type of denture placed and the laboratory used, which is why we only work with the most experienced laboratories in the country.
Complete dentures
If you have lost all of your teeth then a complete set of dentures will be required. The teeth themselves are usually made of resin and set into a plastic base shaped and coloured to match your gums. An impression of your gums will be taken beforehand so that the base can be made to accurately fit around the shape of your real gums and blend in realistically.
Partial dentures
If you have at least one or more teeth remaining then a set of partial dentures will suit you more. A special prosthetic will be made, not just to suit the shape of your mouth but also to fit around the teeth you have left and blend in with the colour and shape of them. An impression will be taken as well as a record of the colour of your teeth so that identical false teeth can be produced.
Implant retained dentures
For many patients removable dentures are just too uncomfortable or cumbersome. If you are one of these people then it may be worth considering dental implants. Implants are small titanium screws that are placed permanently in the jawbone (anaesthetics make this a painless process) and act as a replacement for your tooth’s natural root.
The screws are biocompatible, which means your body will accept them as part of the jawbone and they will even stimulate bone growth and help strengthen your jaw. The implant acts as a retention mechanism for the denture, holding it securely in place and enabling you to live your life full of confidence.
Many patients prefer implant retained dentures as they fit securely to your gums and feel like real natural teeth.
